Forster Group, Brechin talks about their successful “grow your own” apprentice skills academy.
Join us at Tayside Engineering Network (TEN) & Centre for Engineering Education & Development (CeeD) on Fri. 12th November from 1:30pm to 2:30pm via the Zoom platform.
The Forster Group recognised that they needed to find and encourage more young people to join them, in order to grow a more sustainable business. There were many excellent apprentice and training courses available, however, they were not best suited to the specific needs of the pitched roofing industry and the requirements of the ambitious Forster business. Maureen Douglas, Organisational Development Director, researched many of the options available, to help them develop a better recruitment and training solution. This led the way towards establishing a unique “Skills Academy” as a new pathway into the roofing sector and on into a good career. The academy is highly tuned to attracting apprentice employees and developing the talent and skills that are required to support the Forster Group’ strategic ambition to continue to grow a very successful national roofing business.
For many in TEN & CeeD, our engineering businesses are facing the same competition and challenges in attracting, training, and retaining skilled employees. How can we do more to “grow our own” apprentices with the skills for rewarding, lifelong careers in engineering?
This is a great opportunity to hear more of the successful journey and practice of the Forster Group.
